Forever in Our Hearts

William ‘John’ Typert (most records used this spelling) was born October 23, 1912 at Liscomb Mills, Guysborough County, NS, the son of Eva Selina McDonald and William Clarence Typert. October 23rd is when his family celebrated his birthday, so that is our official date for my uncle. His baptism on July 27, 1941 at Necum Teuch confirms this. A record at the Nova Scotia Archives has October 12th, and his military record states October 24, 1914.

John lived common-law with Bernice Mabel Shrider and together, they had two children who are still living.

John married Ida Mullins on August 17, 1950. Together they had five children, plus John became step-father to one child Ida brought into the marriage.

Ida was born June 26, 1927 at Belloram, Fortune Bay, NL, the daughter of Alma and George Mullins. Her sister, Emily Critchell Mullins, married John’s brother Clod ‘Leonard’ Courtney Tibert. Both lived much of their married life at Marie Joseph.

John died October 31, 1975 from a massive heart attack during transport from Liscomb Mills to Sheet Harbour Memorial Hospital. During his lifetime, he worked as a lumberman in the local mills and in the woods, and for Roy Judge in Halifax in demolition and excavating.

During the Second World War, he served with the Merchant Navy and extensively travelled the North Atlantic Ocean.

Ida died December 25, 1986.
