Vital Records Added and Two Mysteries to Solve

Book of Names

I removed the Index page and created a Book of Names page instead. There, you’ll see the person’s name and vital information to identify them. Links to information sources will be included.

Error Alert

The birth record for Joshua Ansell Turner is mistakenly indexed as Joshua Ansell on the Nova Scotia Genealogy website. The person recording the birth failed to put the surname in the right column, so the person who indexed it used Ansell—the middle name—as the surname.

If I encounter any mysterious as I construct this site, I’ll add it to my daily posts as well as the Mysteries page. I make several attempts using various records to locate the information before I add it to my Mysteries File.

Mystery #1

McCutcheon, Gideon: Born May 12, 1866 at Marie Joseph, the son of Zula McCutcheon. He was an illegitimate child. I could find no further information on him, so I don’t know if he was adopted out or the family moved.

His mother’s name was difficult to read. I guessed it a Zula, but it could have been Zela. Also, the informant, which usually is a parent, was spelt Zouba (the best I can decipher). Perhaps the person recording the birth made the mistake.

The surname was also difficult to read. The best I can determine is McCutcheon, but it might have been McCutchean or McCutchen.

I came across the name Zebulon McCucheon on the Internet, and I wonder if this is the name.

I tried to find this record by using just the surname with various spellings—McCutchen, McCutcheon, McCutchean—to no avail. I even tried with Mac. To see the digital image of the record on Nova Scotia Genealogy, search for Margaret Jewers, Guysborough County, 1866. You’ll Gideon on line 203. If you have information on him or the correct spelling of his mother’s name, please let me know (Diane: tibert@ns.sympatico.ca)

Mystery #2

Meisner, M.: Born May 5, 1866 at Marie Joseph, NS, the daughter of Mary and Samuel Meisner. Her parents were married in 1846  at Halifax, NS.

No proper first name was assigned to this baby girl. After researching on the Internet, I came up with one possibility: Naomi.

According to Dr. Kenneth S. Paulsen’s genealogy website, Naomi was the daughter of Mary Maria Fleet (1818, Chester  –  October 6, 1911, Marie Joseph, daughter of Eleanor Covey and Michael Fleet) and Samuel Martin Meisner (September 4, 1821, Lunenburg – January 3, 1914, Marie Joseph). Naomi was born about 1866 at Marie Joseph, and died 1888, age 22, at Liscomb. On August 24, 1883, Naomi married Leroy Langille in Liscomb. They had one child, Manley J. Langille (1884 – April 1, 1951, Liscomb).

If you have any information to share on M. Meisner or know for certain it is or is NOT Naomi, please let me know (Diane: tibert@ns.sympatico.ca)
